Last time you communicated Sidney, you were going to Lundy, so I just presumed you were still in Europe. :)
zedyer08/27/14 21:58
What makes you think that I am in Europe this second??
Mira Bilis08/27/14 21:51
Hi Sidney! Glad you got your 'FBI' problem sorted out ... although, if you're in Europe, shouldn't that be the CIA?? ;D

Trix and Mira... both of those things are good but I was 19 and not keen on the snotty nose look! Plus.. they both make your eyes run. I was given a tip about the mint creams by an older copper who had some in his pocket. :))

vicks vapo rub is also used under the nose....

You have to have a cast iron constitution, that's for sure ... and I admire those who can do a vital job like that. I'm not particularly squeamish regarding the sight of blood (I was a blood donor for 20 years) ... with me it's more about the putrification ... that's what would make me gag. I hear Tiger Balm is also good for putting under the nose to block bad smells. ;)

As part of police training you have to attend at least one post mortem. I was "lucky" and attended 2 in my 13 weeks training. When I was 5 years old I'd discovered a man who had hanged himself. It didn't bother me because at that age I don't think it really sank in. So I consider the first post mortem to be the first dead body I'd properly seen. David Hewspear was the pathologist and he always made sure there was a name label on the left big toe. That was the first thing that struck me..... after the smell. A couple of the male officers fainted. By the next post mortem I discovered that sucking a Clarnico peppermint cream helped enormously. The first pm was an elderly man, the second was a baby of 10 weeks. After seeing that I don't think there was anything else to shock me.

I'd be too squeamish to get involved in anything like that. ;)

No forensics for me. When I joined it was still at the fingerprints stage. They could identify different blood groups but couldn't pin it down to a specific person. Things have developed in leaps and bounds. I think the DNA discovery is the most fantastic thing ever.
Mira Bilis08/27/14 20:27
MD, when you were in the police force, did you get involved at all with the forensic side of things?
MD08/27/14 20:06
And now there's more.
MD08/27/14 20:06
Very......
Mira Bilis08/27/14 19:48
Looks interesting .... "forensic evaluation."

Mira Bilis, what a dreadful thought but nothing that is going to concern you!

And divorce laws are even more moronic here than they are in the UK, apparently.
