Camera is now back running like before.  Thank you.

Glad to see the cam is back up, but needs to have more frames per second so it would appear to have smooth motion.  Anyway, glad it's back!

I remember the webcamera being offline last year. Such a pity! It is such a treat watching the change of seasons in Karesuando.

This is the same thing it did last year, about the same time. Have to wait until April again probably.

I haven't been able to view the webcam since 20th of January. Something wrong with my computer or the webcam?

Irene, good to hear from you. Well provisionally July is the next trip to Sal, but too early to book anything. 5th July is their Independance Day, In 1975 they gained the freedom from Portuguese control, that is a good time for festivals and celebration, as is 24th January the birth date of Amilcar Cabral one of the leaders who fought for the liberation of the islands, who is honoured with the airport on Sal named after him. As they are mostly Roman Catholic all the usual festivals are marked and they have carnivals for noteable Saints Days (each island have their own).Any excuse to dress up and dance. They are really working hard to ensure the success of the Cape Verde Islands and are being rewarded for the hospitality shown to visitors and the pride and honesty between themselves with increasing visitor numbers. Its a really rewarding experience to sit on the jetty with the fishermen and spend time listening to the joy for life that they have.

Happy New Year to you Mike the Traveller, and those dear to you! Happy New Year to all those on the Cape Verde Islands! How do they celebrate the New Year? Any customs there that are different than the usual? Mike, Sounds like the trip was a huge success! So, when is the next trip?

Happy New Year to all the regulars on this site! Back from Africa +40 degrees after leaving Birmingham Airport -10 degrees, 1 hour delay due to de-icing the plane. No such problem at Cape Verde airport! The building work is going well apartments and hotels are progressing, and they actually had some decent rain in November so some crops have a chance, even in that heat there was standing water making some areas grow green plants, quite a surprise. Buyers for apartments seem to be plentiful so the economy will be benefitting and a lot more locals have converted old cars to use as taxis for the tourists,(painted light blue with yellow stripe) a wild rollercoaster ride to the airport, as most roads are made from cobbles of volcanic rock set on the sandy ground, potholed and apparently when it rains extremely slippy. Wonderful trip, great to see all the activity, had lovely walks along the beach over the dunes, tried out a couple of newly opened restaurants, some traditional entertainment (dancing, music) at the hotel, stayed mid 30 degrees or more only down to 28 at night. Planning next visit already.
