I went there aged 11 and was put into form 1L (latin) but then went into 2M. I still have the book I was given, by the headmaster of my junior school, for attaining a scholarship. My daughter went to Wolverhampton Girls' High and had the same headmistress!!! Poor lady was murdered not so long ago, Hester Mottershead.

Trix, when I was eleven I was made to do Latin. I hated it and was rubbish at it. My school reports showed just how bad it was. My father was very understanding and convinced the school to move me from Latin classes to modern languages but it took them a year to agree. I'm still traumatised!!!  LOL!!!

it doesn't cost anything to enjoy childhood at any age...i'm sorry to say but they teach useless crap in school...i have never been asked what year george washington was president...

I think there are more mothers who want their children off their hands than those who are happy to look after them themselves. On car journeys we always used to play games, if it was only spotting particular models of cars, or animals in fields. And I think I've already mentioned on here that we used to have a book on edible plants growing wild. We used to go out "foraging" for edible leaves etc. On my part it was because I hadn't got the money to take them anywhere expensive but we enjoyed it and the kids still mention the silly things we got up to. I loved it when my children were on holiday from school.

and they don't teach them anything we couldn't teach at home...but then there are the parents who don't want to do anything with the kids...

Trix... I couldn't agree more. I'm sure I'd have paid more attention if I'd been a bit older. They try to cram so much in. It seems a shame to take children away from play at such an early age. I don't know about the US but children here start school before they are 5 years old.

MD...i always thought we were sent to school at the wrong age...let kids play and be kids...should start school when kids are 10 or 12...that gives the parents time too awaken the kids curiosity...

And I finally green thumbed.   :D

Remember at school... particularly maths... it wasn't good enough to just get the correct answer... they wanted to know the method used. I suppose that cut out cheating. These days I'm just plain curious!  LOL
