Mira... I often hear barm cakes referred to in Corrie but in the Black Country we called them baps. I must say that the one on the link looks delicious with that black pudding. Speaking of which.... in France they do boudin noir and boudin blanc... black pud and white pud. I liked the black one but the white I found insipid.

Oops, sorry NQ ... mixing you up with Trix again!

N Q 11/07/14 21:23

Thanks MD for the explanation. I had to look up caster sugar used in the recipe you posted because that's another one I've never heard of. A couple people suggested if one couldn't find caster sugar, just use regular sugar and grind it in a clean coffee grinder till it's super fine.

I prefer whole grain rolls to white ones too, and prefer homemade rolls to store bought which never seem to have the same yeasty taste to them.

MD, did you have "barm cakes" back in the Black Country?  I remember them as a child in Lancashire ... I used to love "steak barm cakes."  :)

NQ... I forgot to say.... home grown tomatoes always seem to taste so good.

MD 11/07/14 21:05

Hi NQ..... in the link, the cobs are white bread but I prefer wholemeal or granary bread. I couldn't find a picture of either of those!

Mira... I love Chinese but East Street is too far to walk on a cold, dark night!  ;)

MD what are bread cobs--never heard of them before.

My dad is in a nursing home that allows him to have a small garden so he's been growing tomatoes this summer. Last week I picked the last of his tomatoes before it turned cold and took a couple tomatoes home with plans of making a BLT. I talked myself out of it that day because I didn't have any bacon and decided I could live without it, that is till the next morning when I smelled bacon in the hallway. I end out buying bacon that day and having BLT's for supper the next 3 days---yummy !

Mira chinese takeout sounds good too :)

Chinese takeaway tonight ... lazy Friday.  ;)

MD 11/07/14 20:15

Mira... that looks so yummy. Tonight I'm having mature cheese and red onion on wholemeal bread cobs.

Trix...... I'm fresh out of tomatoes and lettuce! They're best fresh anyway.  :)
