Mira Bilis, early on I watched a lone fisherman. He was there every day and I never saw him catch a thing. And obviously your dad was right about the noise.
I do sometimes wonder how many fish they actually catch here, bearing in mind the amount of people who tear up and down the river with noisy engines on their boats. When I used to go freshwater fishing with my dad as a child, he was always telling me to keep quiet so I wouldn't scare off the fish!

I should really brush up on my native edible plants ... Mira Bilis, that's how I got hooked, fishing with my dad. Then my first husband and, even after he left, I used to take the kids on my own. We also used to take a book that showed which leaves and berries you can eat in the countryside. If the kids got bored we went "eating." Hawthorn leaves taste nutty!

A small boat with "North River" on the side just went by. 2 men fishing from it.

Yes, lots of fish ... the Cowlitz is a tributary of the Columbia River. :-)
