Oh for sure MD and I completely get that. :)  There are loads of long empty roads around here where drivers often put their foot down without incident.  Unfortunately many of our local drivers also treat the busier, winding roads in the same way and of course that's when it all goes pear-shaped.

Mira...I get your point but when there is an empty road in front of you... and no cop behind ... the temptation is there. In France we had a sports car........  and those lovely autoroutes. I suppose it's a gamble and I've been lucky enough to win.

Carol... I'm glad you don't drink and drive but ... you can't help a bit of speeding. On some roads it seems a crime to keep to the limit. Which reminds me.... in Spain I was actually stopped by a policeman because he thought it was odd that I was sticking to the limit. It was quite a twisty road but that didn't bother me. I was a bit annoyed with the driver behind me who insisted on sitting on my back bumper. I decided that sticking to the limit would be good for him so I drove strictly on the limit. We came round a bend and I was so surprised when the police officer put his hand up to stop me. Obviously I didn't get a ticket for anything and he laughed when I told him why I was driving like that!

I know Highway 101 in this neighbourhood has at least a couple of accidents a week caused by speeding drivers ... often resulting in the deaths of others who were driving within the speed limit, minding their own business. :/

Back home in Indiana my uncle was a police officer so I got away from everything from speeding to dwi. Out here I got no one, lol. I still speed but I don't drink and drive anymore that was in my younger stupider days.

LOL@ both of you!!!  I shouldn't admit to this but while I was a serving police officer I did get away with a few speeding incidents. And what I really, really shouldn't admit to is that even after I'd left the force... they were kind enough to let me know when the radar speed trap would be on a particular stretch of road that just begged me to speed. I used the road 4 times daily, 5 days a week. I've never had a speeding ticket in my life. It just goes to prove that it is who you know.... not what you know.
