The luminaries are all lit up right now and the people walking have flourescent lights in their hands.

Mira Bilis, I was in her flat when she showed me how it happened. As she stood with her arms out of the window I collapsed in a heap, laughing like crazy. She said she looked upwards, expecting the lantern to rise, only for it to plummet. I'm laughing as I type. Must be that awful British sense of humour.  :D

Oh my god MD ... I just choked laughing ... probably not the correct reaction but I couldn't help it!!!

N Q, thanks. My son's ex released one of those lanterns from a 3rd storey window. It dropped like a stone and blew into  the open window of a ground floor flat. Luckily no damage was done but she kept quiet about it!

I know the outdoor ones are banned in many places because of the fire risk.

MD the white bags around the edges of the track are luminary bags. People pay for them and put the name of a love one who died from cancer on them. It's one of the many way RFL raises money for cancer research. At dusk they light them up in memory of those love ones.

Mira that could be interesting if they were the chinese version of a luminary ! but they're not. We normally hold our local RFL outdoors at the high school track and depending how windy it is the luminary light up can cause some scary moments with them flying across the track while lit.

That's a lot of bags ... I hope they don't float up into the air when the candles are lit, like the Chinese lantern version! ;)

N Q, what and where are the luminary bags?

They have a Relay For Life walk going on today. I'm surprise that they have luminary bags inside, I wonder if they turn down the lights and light the luminaries at dusk.
