Hahahahaha!   When I went away to college I was so ashamed of my "Maine accent" that I worked hard at losing it....something I would never do today.  After college I moved out of state and never returned, but when we took the kids back to visit they couldn't understand half of wh...

I'm sure there is genetic memory with language.  The Black Country was an area of heavy industry.  I can remember having to walk 7 miles home from school on many occasions when the fog was so thick that they stopped the buses from running.  It was mostly smog from the factories. ...

OMG....those links are FASCINATING !!!  I've bookmarked them so as to spend time on each.  I've always had a big interest in linguistics (grandson is majoring in it in college) and wish I could go back and study it more. My mother's family - who live in Northern Maine - migrated ...

It's 58F here,  expected to go down to 48 tonight.  That's cold enough for me.  LOL! I didn't watch Press ....  but I know what you mean about English and proper English.  I don't speak either of them. I'm Black Country through and through.  Locals are quite used to it by now.  L...

We did our clocks at 2am on the 27th and finally Opentopia is on realtime for me. On the 18th I switched on my central heating.  It will be on until mid-May.  I don't mind going out in the cold but I'm not prepared to be cold indoors. I'm glad you had fun in Portland    ..... but...

Nothing free in the UK.  I'm sure the chlorine serves its purpose. The water at BJ's is palatable and doesn't smell as strongly.  If I could drink the water it would save me buying bottled but it's not all that expensive. What did you have for lunch today?

we have a few places we can get pure spring water...you know ...bring your own jug...but it's free. I think the amount of chlorine used has to do with the bacterior level.

In 1897 the town of Maidstone, England was the first to have its entire water supply treated with chlorine. I didn't know that it started so long ago.   They say the level of chlorine is very low but the smell of it puts me off.
