Mira Bilis, I've just had a look at a line up and I think it could have been a buzzard. I've also just read that people have been poisoning them.
Trix, I haven't seen the eggs for ages.
Sounds like sparrow hawk or kestrel behaviour, MD. We've been having similar behaviour from our pair of cooper's hawks ... chasing birds around the garden! :)
Mira, watching it tearing up the other bird, it didn't seem affected at all. I'm amazed it kept hold of its prey.
Trix, I'd heard that as well, about them focussing on their prey.
A neighbour heard the bang and and went outside. He was amazed when the bird flew away. So was I. I'm just glad it hit the left side of the window.... the right side was open. I say "was" because it's closed now!
