Hi Lizardmomma. I don't know if they have the same thing in America but in the UK you can sponser a dog. In effect you pay towards its upkeep without having the dog in your home. And we also have no-kill animal shelters that you mentioned. Sadly, I don't think there are enough of them.

You know it! I hope to volunteer for the no-kill animal shelters out here when I retire someday, that way I can play with and love on the animals without taking them all home! Every sad little furry face just tears me up! Hi Mommie D!

I know, but it still makes me sad. I'm a big softie. I would be no good in a shelter, I would fall in love with all of them and want to take them home!

It is a bit sad but they are probably there for a good reason. They may be strays or pets of people who have gone on holiday. There are quite a few like this but also lots of happier looking places like this one: http://www.opentopia.com/webcam/14361

It breaks my heart to see doggies in these cramped conditions. I always wonder if they ever get out for a walk, or play. I used to like watching a doggy day care place where all the dogs were played with by the staff, and they had a quiet room for the less energetic/less boisterous dogs. They also took them out in one of two big fields to throw balls for them and the less boisterous ones used to lie in the sun and observe the more manic ones. Now THAT was doggy day care! (I might be misreading this camera, I don't know)
