aha...no...not dark and creepy...my mom said she saw her grandmother standing at the foot of the bed and there are lots of noises like footsteps and such...

If I lived down town I wouldn't have to climb 2 steep hills, I'd have shops on my doorstep but also noise and other undesirable stuff. As it is, I climb the hills, moaning as I go, but I'm out in the fields with absolutely no light pollution. It's dark here, my curtains are open and I can see the stars. Plus I get to see the newborn lambs when I open my bedroom curtains in the morning. I just can't have it both ways!

There are pros and cons no matter where you live.  When I lived in a flat in a town centre, it was perfect for shopping, public transport, restaurants and social events.  The down side was the light pollution, noise from traffic and drunks in the street at night.  Where I live now, there's peace and quiet, fresh air and wild critters.  The down side here is being isolated from civilization if there was an emergency ... although I have to admit, that's a fairly small down side.

very true MD...but guess where the snow goes when the plow goes by in the winter...right up to the door and of course they bury the car...

less than a half acre of land...my poor kitty will go bonkers..and i just remembered...no more star gazing  :(

That's not bad at all for NH Trix .... we pay about $300 a year, but we do get a tax break for our 10 acres of timber.  It does vary a lot from state to state.  :-)

Trix, that sounds a bargain! I think it would be lovely to go back to where I used to live as a child. I'm sure you feel the same.

as for the flooding we had the last one in 1983...have a pic of my mom walking around the house..water reflecting off the ground so it looks like she's walking on water...lol...thats the year the new furnace was put in hanging from the rafters in the cellar so as not to get wet again...

Trix, that's brilliant! In my area, a place that's 170 years old is practically new. We have a local inn that was built in 1130 and still going strong. Have you ever lived in the house before?
