It really was. At times I wished I'd not gone there but after a while I settled in. Plus .... I got there on merit .... most of the others were paying. There was a strict uniform so we all looked the same but I was the one catching the trolley bus to go home while most of the ot...

Bilston Girls High was in the Black Country ...... but in an area that wasn't as black as the rest. LOL I can remember my first day ..... we all had to queue up outside and could only go in once we had produced a certificate showing that we were in good health. As I waited .... ...

I just Googled the first school I attended and saw a photo of one of my teachers and my old headmaster. I have a book dedicated to me by the headmaster for passing my 11 plus exam which enabled me to go to a posh school. I treasure that book. There were several photos of the area...
