NQ... I've never seen that happen but I suppose it must. In French villages there are places that not only open onto the street but sometimes have a drainage ditch immediately in front of the property and the occupants have to step on a concrete slab to reach the road.

MD I think that would be scary if one had small kids. I could see a small child opening the door and running straight out onto the street!

NQ... I live on the outskirts of a place just like that. It's common in lots of areas in Devon and Cornwall to have no front garden, just a front door that opens onto the sidewalk.
