They work like roller blinds except the window has to have a fitting each side that the screen fits into .... to make sure the insects can't get past it. On the link .... the picture shows a screen half way down. The black stripe across the bottom of the screen is actually brist...

LOL! Yeah, we get along nicely now that we're 3000 miles apart. :D So, he says it's fabric because he can see it flapping in the wind. I can kinda see it that way, but who knows. Guess we'll just have to stay tuned for further developements. :)

Our window screens were rollers. You didn't have to remove them. Hubby made the door screens. http://newblinds.co.uk/roller-fly-screens
