I've lived in this town my entire life. The plant you people are referring to, Avtex Fibers, was shut down TWENTY FIVE years ago! They've been cleaning it up ever since! Hundreds of thousands of tons of waste have been cleared out already! Homely, never once have I smelled anything bad while in town, and I used to walk across town to school and back every day! Did you ever consider someone in the car ripped one and didn't crack open the window?

Homely.... I agree. I can't believe that 50 years of pollution can be completely cleared.

Interesting Homely ... maybe they should have re-named it "Stink Royal." ;)

When I was a child, we had to drive through Front Royal on the way to my grandmother's house in the Shenandoah Valley. It always smelled SO bad that we had to cover our noses and mouths when traveling through. Later, it was found that the plant causing the smell was also causing horrible environmental damage, including dumping PCBs into the local river and water supply. Here's an article about the plant being shut down. It later became the largest SuperFund site in Virginia. They claim it is cleaned up now, but I don't believe it. http://bit.ly/avtexfr

A wonderful sight for you, MD! We've had nothing but rain and flooding all day, and it is supposed to stretch into tonight as well. Blah.
MD08/12/14 17:34
Homely, I'm sure you are correct. I'm looking out of my window at a double rainbow... it's absolutely beautiful. One is vivid and the other is fainter.
Homely08/12/14 17:31
Funny, MD! But really, I think the wind, and the angle of the sun and the angle of the cam kind of all aligned today. I've been trying for ages to figure out what was on that damned sign! And then today I noticed that I could kinda sorta read the name that is on the glass storefront, as well. I feel like an idiot for taking forever to figure this one out!
MD08/12/14 17:26
Homely... how about a change of name.... to Hawkeye!!! LOL

This place doesn't look rural enough to be Aldie in Virginia. It could be Charlottesville or Richmond maybe, as suggested on the IP search. I can't quite make out what the writing says on the store when I enlarge the stills.
