On French tv - channel M6 used to have all the old English series like The Professionals, The Saint, The Persuaders etc. Obviously they were dubbed and you got the real French vernacular. I was fluent in phrases like "put the gun down, put your hands up" and other useful sayings....

LOL MD ... I love that!  :D  My French was only O-level standard too but I've picked up a little bit more over the years by watching French movies and tv dramas. :) (Pretty much any European production interests me as long as it's well done.  The next foreign movie we'll be watch...

Mira... I like to watch that because it keeps me au courant with my French. I had French GCE when we went there but I learned such a lot of slang from French tv which was helpful because people do use slang when speaking to you.  Also... children's progs were invaluable. I did so...
