Hi Barbie. The webcam link was taking up 90% of the college’s bandwidth, due to the quality of the picture and the fact that many people were logging on continually for many hours. The technicians turned off the webcam, which I was unaware of. They said they would not turn them on until they resolved the problem. We have resolved this by reducing the size of the picture and limiting the log on time. We have also separated the internal link from the external link. The light in the animal house is switched off accidentally by the technicians, I have advised them to leave them on. As far as the straw is concerned I will advise the technician to increase the amount of straw considerably. The pen is well insulated and with Arthur snuggled up to her she will be extremely comfortable. Concerns regard mice, we have a few but not many, the cold weather forces them into the barn, we trap them humanely and then release them away from the premises. The barn is constantly cleaned throughout by our 2 farm technicians, 2 animal care apprentices and our Year 10 and Year 11 GCSE Environmental and Land based Science students so we know the scale of the problem, which is small. I have been extremely busy recently setting up a new environmental Diploma across our local area, Stockport which was submitted mid November. If successful we will receive £800, 000 capital bid to improve the farm and create a sister eco centre, a kilometre away. So exciting times for the RVTC farm. Students from all over the NW of England will come and study Environmental, Sustainability and Farming, plus animal care which is at the heart of our teaching. Apologies if you cannot view all the time, technicians turn the lights off at night. Flossy has been mated with Arthur the Middle White, staying with her at present, he will be going soon. She should be due, End of Jan. Flossy is really well looked after and the place where she stays is really well insulated. She also gets the right amount of food appropriate to her age and period in pregnancy. Once again many thanks for your kind words. Have a great time.
