I miss this one.

Mira Bilis, yes I've been to Rennes-le Chateau. I used to live 36 miles from it! As for Carcassonne, that was about 30 miles away and I used to shop there on alternate weeks with Narbonne being my other shopping place. A truly beautiful area with lots of chateaux and Abbeys. It was like living in the past.

Mira Bilis 04/05/14 23:34

MD, have you been to Rennes-le-Chateau?  When I read "The Holy Blood and the Holy Grail" years ago, it made me want to visit that area ... and Carcassonne.  Beautiful.  :-)

82 miles closer to the Pyrenees and Spanish border. It's quite possible I've driven along this road, we were always out and about. When we moved to France I was having to use a Ventolin inhaler. After a while I didn't need it any more, having been dependant for about 11 years. My daughter came to live with us for a year and the same thing happened with her. Mind you, in the midlands you could almost cut the air with a knife with all the pollution!

Nice MD ... gorgeous area.  :-)

MD 04/01/14 20:15

Mira Bilis, well done. I just checked with google, I used to live 82 miles south of here.

Mira Bilis 04/01/14 19:31

Narrowed this location down a bit.  :-)

Mira Bilis 02/28/14 17:06

Completely sensible, I think!  :-)

MD 02/28/14 17:03

The French are very logical people. Windows open in to the room so you can clean the outsides without needing a ladder. How sensible is that?!!

Mira Bilis 02/28/14 16:29

I always thought shutters were a brilliant idea ... great for added security and also adding a bit of character to a building.  :-)

MD 02/28/14 14:49

Hi N Q, shutters are open more for light than because of temperature. When we bought our first house in France, we still lived in the UK and visited the house in May and September to do renovation work. We left our shutters closed through June, July and August (as security) so that would have been quite misleading if viewed on a cam.

N Q 02/28/14 13:57

After having the shutters open for a few days which I assume meant warm temps, it's now snowing here.

MD 02/22/14 17:44

Yes N Q, very gloomy, in fact, dark. Pretty much like if you had heavy curtains and left them closed.

N Q 02/22/14 16:17

MD I can understand how they would be useful to keep the elements out but I still think it would be gloomy inside with them closed.

It must be pretty nice out, just saw a man and 2 children walking down the road along with a bicyclist.

MD 02/22/14 16:03

N Q, Shutters are very useful. They shield the windows in bad weather, keep out the sun in hot weather and, if you angle them correctly, you can capture a breeze and direct it indoors when it's stuffy. We had rooms we didn't use, so left the shutters closed.

Flemming Funch, co owner of Opentopia, lives near here. It really is a lovely area.

N Q 02/22/14 14:44

It must of warmed up here because 2 of the houses have the a shutter open on one of their windows. I haven't seen them open all winter.

I wonder if they shutter shut all of the windows during the winter, if so it must be dark inside.

Mira Bilis 02/15/14 17:27

This camera would be a good challenge for us to find ... as MD commented further down, this must be beyond the city limits of Toulouse, being so rural and near the foothills ... I wonder where it actually is?

N Q 02/15/14 16:00

Heavy rains and fog here today. looks like there's water almost all the way across the road by the tree.

Mira Bilis 01/21/14 19:59

A beautiful area indeed.  :-)

MD 01/20/14 14:12

N Q, pretty but cold. That's why we used to go down to Spain for the winter!
